As the most vertically integrated domestic seating manufacturer, we have the greatest opportunity to access and influence the production process of our product, from concept to creation, and throughout its entire life cycle.

When it comes to the impact made on the environment,
we can control more to create less.

Here are five ways we’re making certain of it:

By engineering for low weight, we use fewer resources, therefore reducing the strain on our environment, lowering emissions from transportation, and reducing waste at end of life.

By making seating with as few components as possible, we decrease the amount of tooling required and lower the variety of resources and suppliers needed.

We design products to reduce impact throughout the manufacturing process, including continually increasing our use of recycled and renewable materials while decreasing the amount of harmful chemicals and substances used.

We take great pride in ensuring that our designs not only keep working but are, in fact, treasured. After all, there is no point in making a sustainable product if it’s quickly discarded or replaced. We also adhere to ANSI/BIFMA standards to ensure the integrity of our products while in use.

When the day comes and the chair is at the end of its intended use, making it easy to disassemble is crucial to enable separation and sorting of base materials for processing and recycling. For disassembly instructions for our products, go to the Product Downloads section here.

There are many things we are doing in our manufacturing facilities as well. These include initiatives that make an impact locally, such as our rooftop photovoltaic panel system that offsets 219,312 pounds of CO2 annually, and our commitment to compacting and recycling 100% of inbound carton packaging material, protecting landfills from over 25 tons of cardboard every month! Combine these with what we are doing in our design and manufacturing process, and it is easy to see why we are one of the industry’s most recognized leaders in sustainability practices and green-certified product offerings.

We are proud to be able to offer GREENGUARD Gold Certified products; participate in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise Program; to have achieved LEED® NC Gold Certification for our corporate headquarters facility; to have achieved LEVEL®, BIFMA’s sustainability certification program for furniture; and to partner with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit organization committed to global reforestation. Our philosophy on sustainability and our efforts hopefully makes our already comfy seating comforting as well.
